Why Strength Training Makes You a Better Runner

Running is notalwaysabout running more. When preparing for a race or working on increasing your mileage including strength training to your routine will allow you to become a stronger, more efficient, and resilient runner.

Here's why it matters:

  • Increasing your efficiency: Specific strengthening exercises will allow you to produce and absorb force more effectively throughout your run.

  • Better stability: By strengthening the hips, core, and lower legs you can improve your control

  • Injury resilience: Challenging your strength can enable your body to tolerate the repetitive loads of running.

  • Improved performance: Strength training can improve power and force production, helping you maintain your pace when fatigue increases

Where should you start?

Try incorporatingat least2 strength sessions per week focused on dynamic movements such as:

- Squats or split squats

- Romanian deadlifts

- Calf raises

- Step-ups

- Single-leg exercises

- Core strengthening

The right strength routine can help supplement your running program to maximize your potential and performance.

If you're experiencing persistent or recurring pain, having difficulty returning to running after an injury, or need guidance on the proper strength program, we would love to support you and guide you on your journey.

Happy running,
