Welcome to the Return 2 Sport PT blog. Here, we share insights and tips to improve your movement quality, alleviate pain and dysfunction, and equip you with the knowledge to maintain a pain-free and active lifestyle for the long haul.

Pain is real, however, pain does not always equal tissue damage. The common misconception is that the more something hurts, the more damage is occurring.
Today we will think of our nervous system as an alarm system.
Its job is to protect you
Pain is one way it alerts you to a potential threat
Similar to a smoke alarm, your nervous system can be useful without perfectly representing the severity of the problem
The alarm is designed to protect you, not to measure damage
Let's discuss an example
E.g. burnt toast vs house fire
The alarm is real in both situations, however the level of danger is very different.
Furthermore, the sensitivity of the alarm can be influenced by other factors including previous injuries, stress, sleep, fear and training load. "This does not mean pain is imaginary or 'all in your head'. Your pain is real. It means pain is a complex experience influenced by more than tissue damage alone."
This is why PT is not simply about chasing pain away. It's about understanding what may be contributing to your pain, gradually building your body's capacity and helping your nervous system become more confident with movement and activity.
